| About this antique saddle. What a piece of history! Both sides of this saddle are elaborately tooled with a checkerboard pattern that is used throughout all the pieces of this saddle. The cantle has a classic floral carving design. The saddle measurements are 14" seat / Fenders 18" long / Wooden Stirrups 5" wide x 6" high.
Condition: This saddle is in good condition with a very few flaws. The most noticeable is the scaring on the right swell (see photo). The leather is holding up very well. All the leather tie strings are intact. There is some very miner surface cracking of the leather but nothing that goes through. The tree is solid and true. The fenders are exceptionally well preserved in very fine condition and the decorative tooling is very deep and well-defined. The wooden stirrups are metal covered and have no cracking. The fleece is in good very usable condition.
The overall length of this tremendous piece is 28". This saddle is wide in the gullet and would fit an Arabian or Arabian cross. Or other such horse that might be more narrow in the withers than a Quarter horse. I find no makers name on this saddle, and it was obviously done by a talented saddler.
SAVVY SAYIN! Admire a big horse. Saddle a small one. |
