A .38 caliber center fire, single action top break revolver, serial number 14460, 3 1/4 inch barrel, nickel finish, 1882 and 1883 patent dates. The grips have a fancy American Arms Co. logo at the top. This pistol is of a scarce limited production starting in 1882 and completed circa 1888 by American Arms Co., Boston, Mass.
Condition: frame & barrel retain 98% original nickel, cylinder has 85% nickel, and grips complete, markings excellent, mechanically excellent. Bore has strong rifling and almost no pitting.
Total quantity is unknown but estimated several hundreds.
Distinguishing feature is the manually operated extractor which is a split ring on the back of the cylinder.
This system was probably designed to avoid possible lawsuits from S&W for patent infringements.
