Description

A true veteran of the Civil War.
Ebanezer (Eban) Townsend Starr of Yonkers, New York patented and manufactured 3 types of percussion revolvers.  Starting in 1861 and ending in 1864 United States Government purchased Starr arms for use in the Civil War.

This .44 caliber percussion,  was named  Model 1858 or Starr Arms Company 1858.  A Double Action Revolver, 6 shot double action Army revolver, 6" barrel, marked on the left site of the frame STAR ARMS CO NEW YORK and on the right side STARR'S PATENT JAN 15 1856  and manufactured from 1862 to 1863 at Binghamton New York.  Approximately 23,000 made of which about 21,000 were directly sold to the Army.  This one is serial number 3642.

This Starr Double Action percussion revolver bore is fair with good rifling and some pits.  Gun is a smooth brown patina with traces of blue.  Grips show dings and a mother of pearl button set in each side.  It is mechanically perfect with very tight lock up.  The screw slots are very crisp which is remarkable for its age. I do believe the loading lever retainer is a replacement. If you replaced the nipples it should be a good shooter.  A great piece of history in your hand.
