RJT#2442 -

Description

Navy Model Center Hammer Percussion Revolver by Allen & Wheelock, circa. 1861-1862.  Rare, only 500 total quantity manufactured.  36 caliber, 6 shot, 5" octagon barrel, nice dark walnut wood grips, traces of blue with the balance smooth metal finish, crisp unbelievably tight positive action.  Honest, untouched, rare, and hard-to-find Civil War-period percussion revolver.

Ethan Allen had been making single shot pistols and pepperboxes for almost 20 years before the partnership with Thomas Prentice Wheelock was formed.

The cylinder is rebated at the nipple end.  Original blue finish now gray/brown with blue showing on the barrel.  This gun is serial numbered 438. The marking on the left rear barrel flat are: On the top line "ALLEN & WHEELOCK, WORCESTER, MASS. U.S.  On the bottom line ALLEN'S PT'S. JAN.13, DEC. 15, 1857, SEPT. 7, 1858"  in 2 lines.  The lettering in red does not appear on the barrel and NEVER DID, but does appear on longer barreled guns. The cylinders were not engraved on this model.  See the close-up picture of the barrel stamping.
