This is a Forehand Arms Co. double action, top break .38 S & W revolver with a 5 inch barrel. For every 1 you see with a 5 inch barrel, you will see 500 with a 3 1/4 barrel. The serial no. is 389555. That makes it a black powder model. After Wadsworth died in 1890, Forehand continued the company as Forehand Arms Co. until it was bought by Hopkins and Allen in 1902.
The gun is a five-shot top break model with external hammer. The barrel is marked ìForehand Arms Co. Worcester Mass. U.S.A. Patent Dec í86 and Jan í87î. The grips are marked ìF & Wî. The action functions well, the hammer cocks and holds, the trigger drops the hammer. The cylinder spins as designed when the hammer is at rest, but the lock up is tight when the hammer falls. The top break action functions well and the spring is strong.

Condition: The bore is very bright with strong rifling, there is no erosion in the grooves. There is about 85% original nickel. The finish throughout the pistol is smooth. The grips show some wear but are intact with no chips. This is a good pocket pistol for Cowboy Action Shooting side matches. The holster it was found with is included.
