WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 HIGH WALL SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. Standard grade rifle, Standard wood, black tip Schnabel forearm, straight stock with crescent steel butt-plate. With 30" full round #3 bbl,
very fine bright shiny bore with no pits, sharp rifling, 95% lustrous bbl blue, case colors visible on receiver balance, faded and dim, with very good plus wood.
A proof mark is shown on both barrel and frame indicating that the part in question has been tested with a proof load, and is thus safe to fire with standard ammunition loads. Manufactured in 1886 second year of production. That year 6465 were made. This one was early in the year. I have had a serial number search done by the Cody Firearms Museum and they verify the above information As indicated here

Repair and Return on 9/18/1906, #8556 ( This repair is not specified, but it may have been a smokeless steel barrel replacement.)
. The barrel has a Lyman globe front sight, a slot blank replaces the original sight, and a Lyman spring loaded tang sight. The receiver is fitted with a set trigger which works as it should. Serial Number 1219 on lower tang. The wood is sound and retains virtually all its original finish with minor handling and storage dings.
