Colt New Service .44-40 Serial# 23694 Manufacture in 1909 the twelfth year of production. Very rare in Nickel and highly sought after and with Mother of Pearl grips makes this gun a standout in any collection. The bore is bright with only minor pitting and generally well preserved.
These guns were very popular south of the border during the Mexican revolution. Also If you look closely in many old westerns you will notice that these guns were used with ejector housings added to give the appearance of a SAA
The holster with this gun is from the same time period. Very rare Texas holster made by C M Cain, Tyler, Tx. Research shows a S M Cain listed in the Bastrop advertiser 1854-1879. The holster is a single loop floral holster with a sewn in toe. This type of holster has been seen unmarked with numbers stamped on them. It is unknown if the C M Cain made the holster or ordered the holster mail order and marked the holster to sell at his business. There is no damage to the holster. This holster is in very good condition. You can have it or not choose below.
The top of the barrel has the Colt two line patent and address markings of "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A., over PAT'D AUG.5.1884 JUNE 5.1900 JULY 4 1905----"
and the left side of the barrel is marked "NEW SERVICE .44-40."
the Colt "VP" proof-mark located on the front end of the trigger guard bow with a single number "3" on the rear section of the trigger guard bow.
and a lanyard loop on the bottom of the grip frame.
All matching serial numbers and mechanically perfect.
Very fine overall, with 90% of the nickel plated finish remaining.
