Description

Late 18th century American, leather hunting pouch with thread-sewn in gusset and welted seams and sewn on hair-on front flap. The button that would hold the flap down is missing. The old worn leather strap was replaced a very long time ago. The strap has a very nice attached a carved horned with original ring carved spout. The slightly domed butt plug has a carved in hex sign and is attached with 11 iron nails. The horn is attached to the shoulder strap and fastened to the horn with a iron eye screw. The horn spout plug was attached to the pouch strap with a cord, but the cord has been broken, you can see the end of it in the spout plug. Bag is 9" wide x 8.5" high, strap is 42"long, horn is 10" long. All parts with fine old patina. As all pouches of this era it is a display piece only , it would not stand up to any use. Condition: Flap on pouch with some damage visible from the back and underside, but displays very well. I have not seen one of these original bags for sale in 20 years. If they could talk, just imagine the stories they might tell.
