Description

A .40 caliber Plains rifle by Joe Wiest, of Dubuque Iowa. Joe past August 13, 2013. This attractive percussion rifle is trimmed with perfectly browned iron furniture, and stocked in dark stained fine curly maple. The rifle is a classic plains rifle style with a cheek piece in the Tennessee style. Fitted with a Hawken style lock that functions flawlessly. The barrel is 30 inches long and 1 inch across the flats. I have not dismounted it and see no barrel makers name but Joe used WM LARGE barrels. It is marked "Joe Wiest #36". All wood to metal fit is superior and precise, showing the hand of a master. Front sight Ò 3/8Ó dovetail, brass base w/silver blade. Rear sight - 5/8Ó dovetail, browned steel, open, buckhorn style. Features double set triggers. 45 inches overall length and weighs 9Ó lbs. The barrel has deep rifling a true round ball shooter. Bore shows no signs of wear or pitting. No rust or damage to wood. All hardware is iron, but for the poured pewter nose cap. This rifle is in perfect condition.
