Gallagher patent carbine manufactured by Richardson & Overman of Philadelphia, .50 cal percussion, breech loader, 22-1/4” barrel, The barrel and receiver are mostly smooth with some pitting. The lock plate is pitted and the hammer has had some welding work done. Serial #5926. The metal surfaces shows some worn re-blue. The markings on the lock are readable for the most part; The stock maybe a replacement and has been refinished with no visible cartouche. Both front and rear sight are missing. Where this Civil war carbine shines is in the bore. It has some pitting but very strong crisp rifling. It would serve very well for a reenactor or a shooter with the addition of sights.
