Description

A rare Swedish Percussion Cavalry pistol of very large caliber, cut for a Wooden shoulder stock. Circa 1852. Marked underneath the frame 5R ASSN No52. Iron backstrap with a shaped slot for mounting the shoulder stock (Has been filled). Heavily checkered military style grip. 1852 stamped on the lock plate. Brass butt cap stamped with the number 1634, steel lanyard ring attached. Brass trigger guard. The shape of this pistol is very distinctive due to the unusual contours of the grip and having no sharp edges was a useful feature to ensure the pistol could easily be pulled out of the saddle holster in a hurry without snagging. This smooth bore pistol has a 20mm bore (.78”) Caliber approx .8 inch about 10Ga and was loaded with six lead balls of approximately 9mm diameter. This smooth bore pistol was intended to be used against massed troops. The pistol stamped with other various military markings including a crown with a "C". Crisp action and in good working order. Overall length 18 inches. This smooth bore pistol was made by Husquvarna. Likely used by the Confederacy during the war of Northern Aggression.
