Description

A rare authentic antique American Civil War CONFEDERATE cavalry saber in the classic unmarked version that has been nicknamed by collectors as the “Dog River”. They get this nickname because some of the unmarked cavalry sabers were made by the factory on the Dog River in Georgia. This particular design has long been attributed to the Richmond, Virginia firm of Boyle & Gamble. Details: A long slightly curved single edged steel blade of classic Confederate form. Wooden grip covered with thin brown leather and grooved to accept the twisted brass wire wrap which is all missing. This sword is in its original untouched condition. Brass hilt with a very nice old patina is perfectly formed, Leather in well aged condition with minor chips, blade showing good condition, and the hilt with a three bar brass guard, is in really superb untouched condition. MEASUREMENTS: Overall length  is 40 1/2 inches.
