z Sold Bomb Lance whaling toggle harpoon

RJT#3872 -

Description

Whaling Harpoon, Exploding Harpoon, Bomb Lance. Exceedingly rare
"ONE OF A KIND"
This harpoon was found in Boston Mass. I believe it is a prototype made by Albert Moore of Hampton Maine and Patented by him on March 16, 1844
under Patent No. 3,490.
It measures 16 inches long overall. The inside diameter of the socket measures 1 1/4 inches, the flue measures 7 1/4 inches from point to point and 1 3/4 inches at the widest part. The toggle pivots on an iron pin and in front of the pin is a hole for a wooden peg that holds the flue steady until it penetrates the whale.
