Description

A GEORGE WOSTENHOLM AND SON, WASHINGTON WORKS, SHEFFIELD FARRIER'S KNIFE Marked I*XL  George Wostenholm made the knives for American settlers and pioneers. In 1848 he established his 'Washington Works' at Sheffield, England. This horn-handled 4” bladed knife is clearly marked with Wostenholm's Washington Works, Sheffield stamp. The knife has been twisted into a farrier's knife for use in scraping horses' hooves.  These knives are most often seen with these bone handles and  likely are original to the knife, the blade and its adapted handle are unique and interesting to collectors. This one is in good condition and the Makers mark are clearly visible. Every Sheffield knife collector should have one of these in the collection.
