Description

Knives like this one were traded to the Indian's and were commonly used as weapons of war. This one has all the age and character of such a trade knife. It has obviously been blooded as indicated by the blood rust on the blade.
Scalping
The pewter bolster has been poured to lock into the scales. The oak scales are attached to the tang with solid steel rivets. The rivets are an indicator of 19th century construction. The mark of a good forged knife is the tapered tang as seen here. It is all topped off by a well cared for set of scales.  Overall length 12 1/2 inches with a 7 1/4 inch blade.  The blade shows that it was shortened to make for more convenient carry. The style is similar to the one seen in a famous photo of Wild Bill.
