Description

Made by John Bergmann of Granville, Tennessee. This is the classic utilitarian Hawken that John makes. Overall length is 53”and weighs 10 pounds. The straight octagonal barrel is 37” long. It has a dark dull brown finish with 100% of that finish remaining. It is mounted with a silver blade front sight and a Hawken style fixed rear sight. The rear sight has replaced the original adjustable rear sight and the original dove tail was expertly filled. Barrel is signed in script on top of the barrel with the maker’s name “J.F. BERGMANN.”  The hook style patent breech and tang are browned as is the lock mechanism and the triggerguard. The lock is a typical Hawken style front action. The fullstock is made of black walnut which is a medium brown color. The walnut is plain straight grained  over the entire length of the stock. The Length of pull is 14 inches.The barrel is attached to the stock by three flat barrel keys which are fire blued. Barrel keys are surrounded by browned escutcheons on each side. There is a browned nosecap attached to the front of the stock. Beneath the fullstock are two steel thimbles and a entry pipe housing a wooden ramrod. All are browned steel. The two piece Hawken style buttplate is also browned as is the toeplate and sidelock screw escutcheon.  Double set triggers are present. Caliber is .54. Overall condition is new.
