z Sold "Forehand Model 1901" Hopkins & Allen Double Action, Top Break .38

This is a Forehand Model 1901. A double action, top break .38 S & W revolver manufactured by Hopkins & Allen Arms Co Norwich CT. , USA. It is so marked and it has their rare  6 inch barrel. .  The serial no. is D2332D.  After Forehands partner Wadsworth died in 1890, Forehand continued the company as Forehand Arms Co. until it was bought by Hopkins and Allen in 1902.

The gun is a five-shot top break model with external hammer.  The nickel finish is 100%. The 6 inch barrel is the main and collectable feature of the gun. The grips have a crack on the top of the left grip.(see photo)  The action functions perfectly, the hammer cocks and holds, the trigger drops the hammer.  The cylinder spins as designed when the hammer is at rest, but the lock up is tight when the hammer falls.  The top break action functions well and the spring is strong. The bore is excellent.
