Boy is it ugly, Sawed Off Shotgun with 17 inch barrels. (YES IT IS LEGAL ANTIQUE PERCUSSION GUNS DO NOT HAVE A BARREL LENGTH RESTRICTION) It has an overall length of 34 inches. The ramrod is 18 inches long. The wood has many dings and abrasions and I bet each could tell a tail. The back action locks both left and right, function crisply. The gun has dark brown patina, and some pits in the breach area. The locks, hammers, trigger guard, butt plate, tang, etc. all have heavy engraving. The ram rod entry pipe is missing. The wire on it is not really needed because the barrel wedge has been replaced, but the wire has been on it for years so I left it. The gun dates from the late 1850's to 1860 period. If you ever wanted a sawed off percussion shotgun to compliment your display, this is it. I don't have a clue as to the history of the gun. Could it be Confederate? Sure, or maybe an express agents gun. The tacks on the stock make me think that it might be an indian canoe gun, It sure is interesting.
