Description

Original antique, hand-sewn ELK hide trousers made in the 1870s.  These trousers are made of native tanned elk skin. EVERY STITCH IS HAND SEWN and only a very few stitches are missing or loose. Around each button hole is the hand stitching and the stitching is very close together. The buttons are ALL VINTAGE BRASS OR BONE and only one button is missing. Long leather fringe is welted into each side seam.

They have no hip pockets but have two front top load pockets. Pockets and waist band are lined with tan cotton.  The pockets have a short fringe along the top and are very deep as favored by a horsemen. The pockets also feature beaded fronts with only a 3 or 4 beads missing. They have suspender buttons with one replaced with a nice brass substitute. These trousers are in very soft and comfortable good condition. Original indian tanned trousers are very hard to find as they were often used up.

These trousers will fit 36 to 38 inch waist comfortably and have a 32 inch inseam. The back belt could ajust to fit smaller sizes, if need be. The cuff has a short fringe like the pocket top. These are of museum quality I have had them for 40 years and  only worn them for photos on occasion. Trousers of this style were often made by Indian women for Cavalry Officers during our westward expansion.  A three-day inspection period is allowed on these trousers. The accompanying props are not included.
