Traditional Cheyenne Holster for Colt S.A. 7-1/2" Barrel
The Traditional Cheyenne Holster is patterned after leather holsters seen on the American frontier in the late 19th century. Cheyenne-style holsters were used to carry revolvers while riding, working, traveling, and going about business in town. Cowboys and lawmen alike relied on this type of gun leather, particularly with the long-barreled revolvers commonly carried during the period. Most of our holster patterns are copied from original examples we have found, and we chose this one for its traditional Cheyenne border stamping and original construction.
For the Colt Single Action Army with a 7-1/2" barrel, this holster is cut from 6–7 oz. leather, a weight well suited to the period gun leather we are reproducing. It is lighter than the heavy saddle leather used in some modern Western holsters, but has enough substance to hold its shape and stand up to years of use. With a little care, leather of this quality can remain useful and good-looking for generations. The pouch has a traditional Cheyenne border, sewn-in toe plug, and antique dark brown hand finish.
The fit accommodates 1873 Colt and Colt clones with 7-1/2" barrels, the Remington 1875, and Ruger Vaqueros. It also fits 1851, 1861, and 1860 Colt models in appropriate barrel lengths.
