Civilian Full Flap Belt Holster – Black
Copied from an original antique holster in the River Junction Collection, this Full Flap Civilian Belt Holster represents a style carried by civilians and, in many cases, retired or former Civil War soldiers as they moved into frontier life. The design crossed naturally from military service into civilian use because it was practical: one holster could accommodate a wide variety of commonly carried revolvers while giving the gun excellent protection from weather, dust, and hard use. It remains a fine example of traditional Old West gun leather.
This holster is hand-cut and hand-finished from sturdy 6–7 oz. leather, then dyed a deep black and lightly oiled. The full flap closes securely over a brass stud, while the open toe makes room for the longer-barreled revolvers this pattern was made to carry. Yellow linen thread is sewn by hand at the leather-smith's bench, a traditional method valued for its strength. The border tooling and rosette on the pouch were chosen to closely approximate the original antique.
It fits a 2½-inch belt and accommodates the 1878 Colt with 7½-inch barrel, 1873 Colt with 7½-inch barrel and copies, 1875 Remington with 7½-inch barrel and copies, 1860 Army with 8-inch barrel, 1861 Navy with 7½-inch barrel, 1858 Remington with 8-inch barrel, 1851 Navy with 7½-inch barrel, and their conversions. It will not fit Dragoon or Walker revolvers.
