Green River Rifle Works Hawken .58 caliber, custom built at the Green River factory in the early 1970s.
This is not a kit gun. The serial # is 299. The riflesmith was Ron Paul, Green Rivers 2nd hired riflesmith eventually there were 15. His mark (
P ) is on the barrel. Beautiful maple stock with an interesting light and dark pattern that gives it a sort of worn look. The length of pull is 14 1/2". Barrel rifling is well defined with sharp lands and groves. Barrel has seven groove and the bore is shiny bright. Very rare gun as only around 650-700 factory Hawkens were ever made by Green River which was Doc Whites first gun company. Pattern is sometimes called "Late S. Hawken" pattern. This classic percussion halfstock Hawken rifle is trimmed with traditional Hawken iron furniture and iron forend cap. The 33" barrel is finished in a smooth chocolate rust browned, that helps to eliminate reflections, glare, and mirage while sighting. A classic Hawken hooked breech and two wedge keys retain the straight octagon barrel. allowing instant take-down, for easy cleaning. The barrel is a sturdy 1" octagon across the flats. The octagon corners of the barrel are crisp and square and marked "GRRW Roosevelt Utah". The sights are a nickle blade front sight with a semi buckhorn rear sight. Double set triggers and lock function perfectly.
