RJT#6050 -

Description

This is a Hawkin-ized, Customized .50 cal. "CVA Mountain Rifle" although it does not look much like a CVA. It was made some time in the 1970's with a 32" octagonal Douglas barrel with steel under rib. It's mounted with a percussion Maslin style lock that has turned to a grey patina. It has the Hawkin style hook breech with two barrel keys surrounded by German silver wedge inlays, and has been fitted with all Hawkin style furniture. Which includes the nose cap, buttplate, toeplate, trigger-guard, ran rod thimbles and entry pipe. All of these parts including the barrel have been expertly browned. The ramrod  tip has been fitted with a horn ball seat. One of the signs that this is an early CVA is the German Silver capbox inlaid in the center of the right side of the stock.  Later models were brass and not nearly as well designed. The stock is maple with only a few traces of figure, but shows a nice mellow brown hew. The rifling is 1 in 66 twist and the bore has been very well cared for. Bright and Shiny with very sharp and crisp rifling.  There are no Spanish proof marks on it so it was made in the U.S.A. Later ones were made in Spain. The double set triggers works perfectly and the lock is positive. They are only a few handling marks on the stock and the barrel. These rifles have a very good reputation for accuracy and have won many matches against far more expensive big name custom muzzle-loaders.
