Colt Walker Holster – 9" Barrel
The Colt Walker was a large revolver, and holsters made specifically for it were not common. This reproduction is copied from an early Walker holster in the River Junction Collection, complete with a hand-rolled rope design across the main pouch and along the edges of the skirt. Very few original holsters of this type have survived intact. Many were later cut down or altered, and some were fitted with a bandana or other material in the toe to take up the extra space when a shorter-barreled revolver was carried.
This double-loop holster is made specifically for the Colt Walker with its 9-inch barrel. The brown leather is hand-tooled with the rope pattern found on the original, giving the holster the same distinctive character without trying to improve on what was already there. We were fortunate to find an original that had survived in usable form and have carefully copied its construction and details.
We had the original in hand when this pattern was made, allowing our leather-smith to study its shape, tooling, and construction at the bench. That original example is what guides the work here, from the rolled rope detail to the way the leather is put together.
A faithful reproduction of a scarce piece of early Old West gun leather.
