z Sold Canoe Gun (Cut down shotgun)

RJT#6141 -

Description

A delightful, Sawed Off Shotgun with 14 inch barrels.  (YES IT IS LEGAL ANTIQUE PERCUSSION GUNS DO NOT HAVE A BARREL LENGTH RESTRICTION) It has an overall length of 31 inches.  The ramrod is 15 inches long.  The wood has virtually all its original finish worn off, with a short crack behind the right lock, but it is stable. Also there is a crack in front of the Trigger Guard that has been glued and is stable. Some dings and abrasions from use are seen as well.  The locks are marked MORTIMER and both left and right, function crisply.  The gun has an even, pleasant, brown patina, which is smooth and uncleaned.  The locks, hammers, trigger guard, butt, tang,  have a double line engraving. The butt plate is plain.  The barrel rip is marked LAMINATED STEEL. The gun dates from the late 1850's period.  It is of good sound solid quality with typical pitting in the bores.  If you ever wanted a sawed off percussion shotgun to compliment your display, this is it.  Could it be Confederate? Sure, or maybe an express agents gun. The tacks on the stock make me think that it might be a Native American canoe gun,  It sure is interesting.  Other items are not included.
