z Sold Colt 1849 Pocket Moderl Eagle Powder Flask

A Colt 1849 “Pocket Model” powder flask. It is all original, and is embossed, on both sides, with an eagle holding a shield and arrows within its talons. Thirteen stars are above the eagle’s head and wings. “E. Pluribus Unum” is printed within a banner, at the lower edged, just below a pair of crossed pistols. The body of the flask is brass with a brass charger. This was probably produced during the American Civil War period.Overall Length with Spout: 4.50 Width: 2.02? Thickness: 1.02?

Condition: A very dark age patina with no cleaning or polishing evident with one speck of white paint that would probably come right off, but may leave a bright spot when removed, so have left it, as found – One large dent on one side of the flask body, with a few much smaller dents on both sides – Charger operates as it should, with a touch of rust on the iron spring and screws

Number 389 in Riling's book. In the Shell & Bush category, with a more elaborate and deeper design using pendant fern form at the throat of the flask. Has a patented adjustable charger on a common top. A FINE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR PERIOD EMBOSSED COPPER POWDER FLASK, ca. 1860: Of mid-19th century design with a two piece body with a classic raised “Shell & Bush” motoif (Riley # 384 & 390). Mounted with four (4), copper pins and its brass suspension-rings: one ring missing. Nicely toned, graduated, brass priming-spout: the charger with a clear “AM. CAP & FLASK Co.” marking for the noted manufacturer of Waterbury, Conn. Four-step pouring-spout with its functional, internal, powder-cut-off spring and lever. In fine untouched condition. The body with deeply embossed flutes and smooth, patina, copper surfaces with some minor handling marks, minor dents and fine seams. Overall length, 8 3/4".
