In the NEW WEST of the late 1890s and the early 1900s "real" cowboys and "reel" cowboys rubbed elbows with one another on early movie lots. Most all of them packed a big bore revolver. The "real" cowboys usually carried them in a belt holster high on their hip but at that same time further south some Texas Rangers wore their holster on a belt with a slot cut in them to allow their holster to be worn lower for a faster draw.  Along the Mexican boarder these Texas Rangers were in pursuit of a outlaws. They modified their straight cartridge belts by cutting a slot below the cartridge loops and putting their holsters  through that slot.  This holster and belt is a further improvement of  that type of carry technique. Mexicans along the border noticed this and  knew these men to be Rangers and also knew they were seeking law breakers, some times referred to as "banditos". The Spanish word searching or seeking is  "buscador" and that is where the term buscadero comes from and these belt and  holster combinations became know as a Buscadero rig. The word Buscadero was also a derogatory term when referring to a Ranger or other lawman.

This rig was made for a Colt single action army and would carry your 4 3/4 inch barrel Colt perfectly. The belt measure 43 inches over all and 38 inches to the center hole. It is 3 1/2 inches wide and has 23 bullet loops. The leather is fully alive and would give a century of service with good care and would make a great display piece with your Vintage Colt. The main seam of the holster is laced together with latigo leather lacing and are all other areas are intact.
