Description

This is a vintage .54 cal. CVA Mountain Rifle made some time in the early 1980's with a 32" octagonal barrel and steel under rib. Customized to accommodate a Ketland style flintlock produced by R.E. Davis. It has a hook style breech with two barrel keys surrounded by German silver wedge inlays and a pewter nose cap. The dark stain maple stock displays a striking tiger stripe, lending an elegance not often seen on a CVA. Steel furniture includes the buttplate, toeplate, and trigger-guard.  I am pretty sure the barrel was rifled by Douglas Barrels in the USA. It has a 1 in 66 twist and the bore has been very well cared for. A Bright and Shiny bore with very sharp and crisp rifling.  There are no Spanish proof marks on it so it was rifled in the U.S.A. by Douglas. The double set trigger works perfectly and the lock is positive and the flintlock produces a strong shower of spark. They are only a few handling marks on the stock and the barrel has aging brown finish. These rifles have a very good reputation for accuracy and have won many matches against custom made muzzle-loaders. The introduction of the Ketland lock made it necessary to reposition the lock screws on the left side lock mortise and the front screw is a bit forward of the mortice. That is small sacrifice to accommodate the Ketland lock installation.  Other items are not included.
