Description

A vintage bench made floral patterned holster. Made for a Colt Single Action Army revolver with a 4 3/4 or 5 1/2-inch barrel, and a  well matched  leather, floral pattern cartridge belt marked in a cartouche with the catalog number 940 and  "WYETH HDW&MFG Co ST. JOSEPH Mo.” The holster has no maker mark, yet demonstrates high art and superior talent. It would provide a century of use yet with good care.  Both pieces show wear with no tears, repairs, dry rot, etc.  All stitches and rivet intact and no abuse.  The leather is supple with no cracks and minimal crazing on both the belt and holster.  The belt as shown, has (47) .38 caliber loops.  Four of the forty-seven loops on the right side have more wear (one with a break) than the rest, that is presumably where a holster rode.  The rest of the loops are full formed and intact.  Belt measures approximately 2 3/8 inches wide, 34 inches to the second hole in the billet, and 38 inches overall. The Wyeth Hardware Co. of St Joseph, Missouri was established in the mid 1800s, and a maker of wagon wheels and leather goods such as harness, saddles, and holsters.
