IVER JOHNSON'S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG. MASS.U.S.A.

Looks great and functions well.
This revolver has 99% of its original nickel. This fine piece of workmanship has been around longer than airplanes, cars and telephones. The overall condition is very smooth. Gun locks up very tight, and functions perfectly. MOTHER OF PEARL Grips show almost no wear.

This is the scarce version of the hammerless with the short 3 1/4 inch barrel.  Chambered in .38 S&W  center fire. The action is perfect, with bright  shiny bore very sharp rifling. All markings are sharp and clear.

In 1894 Iver Johnson launched the production of their ‘Safety Automatic’ revolvers, and shortly thereafter launched hammerless versions of the same revolver. The ‘Safety’ referred to the use of a transfer-bar safety, which allowed the gun to be carried with the hammer down on a loaded chamber. The Automatic portion of the name referred to the fact that it automatically ejected the cartridges when the revolver was opened.  Iver Johnson were also prolific advertisers, with some adverts that would be considered over the top today, but historically they were effective sales tools.
