z Sold Civil War Era Smith & Wesson Model 2 Army revolver

Smith & Wesson Model 2, six shot, .32 rf caliber revolver. It had the same power as the .36 cal. Colt Navy.
It was introduced just before Fort Sumter, it was an immediate hit.
Soldiers and civilians stood in line to buy them. Because of its military associations the Model 2 quickly picked up the nickname "Old Army".
While the Federals never bought any at least one state government, Kentucky, procured 2600 for its cavalry and mounted infantry units.
Officers like Ambrose Burnside and George Custer desired them, but company officers and soldiers appreciated them also.
This one is in average good condition. The grips are sound with no chips or cracks and still shows about 95% original varnish.
It has a brownish blue on the barrel, but it is the frame that interests me most. Note, the blood rust right hand thumb print on the left side of the frame. Otherwise most metal parts for the most part are smooth.
This revolver is serial #7787 ship in March of 1859. The action works well and locks up every time.
The barrel hinge is solid and the latch locks up securely.The bore has strong rifling with light pitting.
All markings are crisp and clear. The barrel is marked "Smith&Wesson Springfield Mass." “Wild Bill” Hickok, was packing one when he was murdered in Deadwood.
This is a 6-inch-barreled “Old Model Revolver” shown with the infamous “Dead Man’s Hand” that Hickok was holding when Jack McCall shot him in the back of the head.
