Description

Here is a Remington Model 1889, SxS Hammer shotgun in 12 Ga. This 1889 has 20" barrels. Length-of-Pull is 14 1/4". By it’s serial number (230935) this was manufactured prior to 1898. The 1889 is a very robust shotgun and this one is in good condition and is mechanically sound. This is fun to shoot, we recommend that you use ammo from a re-loader that loads to 19th century specifications or Cowboy loads. The original barrel has developed into a nice patina. There are a several scratches in the wood, with a crack that was repair a century ago and has stood the test of time. The bores show typical black powder pitting.  The gutta-percha butt plate has no cracks or chips and has protected the stock for 125 years.
Coach Gun / Saw off shot gun / Street Howitzer / Scatter Gun.  This Coach Gun received its many moniker on the stagecoaches and streets of the Wild West.  These weapons allowed for some leeway in accuracy as they bounced along the bumpy trails.  The Stagecoach Shotgun were also popular among Marshals and Sheriffs for their mobility and lenient accuracy at close quarters.  Thumb the top locking lever to the side and you can break open the gun to reveal the lead-spitting barrels of this thunder death defense weapon. Close and lock the barrels and cock both hammers. Finger the double triggers one at a time and the hammers will fall. On the plains of the late 19th century there was nothing else like the sound of a shotgun hammer. The feel and action of this legendary Old West tool will transport you back to the Dakota Territory, when your trusty shotgun was your last and best line of defense. The overall length is 36 1/2", lock up is secure with no movement. The stock is sound. The for-end has some nicks and dings, likely from bouncing around on board the coach. A prefect gun for the reenact-er or cowboy shooter.
