Action Type: This rifle has a lever action with a full length tubular magazine and double set-trigger. The left of the barrel is marked:
 beneath that
 aproximately  4/34 inch down barrel it is marked:
 The top of the barrel at the receiver and the receiver are marked with a circled “WP” proof.
The underside of the receiver is marked “537192” and the upper tang is marked:
“MODLE 1894 WINCHESTER trade mark reg in u.s. pat. off.”

Sights: The front sight is dovetailed to a slotted in the barrel. The rear sight is the same and typical of Winchester.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece smooth walnut with a cap on the forend, straight grip, straight comb and steel cresent buttplate. XXXXXXXXXXXThe stocks have several scattered light nicks, dings, scuffs and scratches. There is a very minor loss at the right of the heel, almost under the buttplate. Otherwise, there are no chips or cracks. XXXXXXX The LOP measures 12 7/8? from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has wear at the heel and toe with some scattered light surface oxidation. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is some very minor erosion scattered in the bore. Our gauge shows an ME of about 1.0.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. The barrel and magazine tube have generally strong finish with some scattered light wear and minor surface oxidation. The receiver has mostly gone to a light patina with finish remaining around the saddle ring, hammer and other protected areas. The receiver has a few scattered light nicks and scratches. The lever has some scattered minor surface oxidation. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is very light and crisp when set. The trigger is set by pushing forward on the rear trigger. When not set, the trigger has a smooth takeup, but is still crisp. The hammer has a half-cock safety. The lever lock up is good.
This rifle has a double set-trigger, a special-order feature offered by the Winchester factory. It is in about Very Good condition with about 75% of its metal finish. This is an honest rifle that has seen over a century of use yet still has a nice bore and strong mechanics. It would be perfect for throwing in the back window of your pick-up truck for use on coyotes and other varmints and it would also be a great deer rifle today just as it was a 112 years ago. That said, with its special-order trigger and condition, it will also likely interest the Winchester collectors.
