Rare H. H. Heiser Model 405 Holster
H. H. Heiser of Denver, Colorado, was one of the best-known names in American leatherwork, and this Model 405 is a fine example of why their holsters became so well regarded. Hermann H. Heiser's Denver shop produced gun leather for working men, lawmen, sportsmen, and gun owners, with careful construction and well-finished leather being hallmarks of the Heiser name.
This right-hand Model 405 is made from heavy skirting leather and remains in excellent condition. The medium-tan leather is soft and supple, with no loose stitching, scars, scratches, or other damage. The holster is properly marked with the H. H. Heiser Denver Colo. maker's mark in an oval, a marking used across a long span of the company's production.
The compact size makes this an especially interesting Heiser for collectors of small Colt revolvers. It fits a 3 1/2-inch or 4-inch Colt Lightning or Colt Thunderer Storekeeper Model without an ejector rod. One particularly useful detail is the narrow leather strap with a buttonhole, allowing the holster to be secured to a suspender button. That's the sort of small practical touch you find on gun leather made for actual use rather than simply appearance.

A Heiser holster is good Old West gun leather on its own, but finding one correctly suited to a Colt Storekeeper makes this a particularly worthwhile piece for a serious collection. Honest craftsmanship never needs much embellishment.
