Slim Jim Cross-draw Holster for Colt and Remington Revolvers
The Slim Jim holster is one of the old frontier patterns that earned its place through practical use. This style was common in the 19th century, when a holster needed to carry a revolver securely without adding unnecessary leather or bulk. This example follows original holsters preserved in the River Junction Collection, keeping the close-fitting shape and simple construction found on those early pieces.
Made from 5/6 oz. leather, the holster is closely contoured to the revolver rather than built with a roomy pouch. That's how these holsters were made roughly 160 years ago, using enough leather to hold the gun while keeping the rig light and manageable. The belt loop is positioned for right or left hand cross-draw carry and will accommodate a belt up to 2 1/2 inches wide. An open toe leaves the bottom of the revolver exposed.
The pattern accommodates a wide range of frontier revolvers, including the Colt Model 1873, Colt 1860 Army and conversions, 1858 Remington and conversions, along with the Remington 1875 and 1890. Colt 1851 and 1861 revolvers, their conversions can also be carried, though the fit will be somewhat loose.
Each holster is made by hand for River Junction, cut from the hide and worked at the leather-smith's bench. The leather is hand tooled, dyed, oiled.
