Wild West Show Trick Shooters Smooth Bore Mexican Colt Copy.

One of the major tools of the trade was the smooth bore sixgun used for  trick shooting on horseback and afoot. Mostly they shot glass target balls with light shot-loads. and blanks for performances. The six shooter of choose was the Spanish made “so called Mexican Colt” Because it was 1/4th the cost of the true Colt Peacemaker.  In other words these guns cost $3 to $4.00 when the 1873 Colt Army cost $14.00 or more back in the late 1800s. However these original old guns are much harder find than the antique original Colt. Why?  Well! I will tell you why. Because they got use up to the point they were just junk. So , to find one like this with the original bone grips and all the original parts is very rare. That is not to say it is perfect. If you just want to own and display a real piece of Wild West history it is fine. If you want it to function it needs work though not much. These Mexican Colts are based on the same internals as the reproduction Italian Remington reproductions of today. If you point this shooter down and cock it the cylinder rotates, otherwise it does not.  A weak or missing hand spring! The cylinder stop bolt does not engage the cylinder stop notch, even though it moves to it. Looks to me if you have time to tinker with it, it could be made to function to a degree.  In any case it is a good collectible piece of Wild West Show history.
