Description

This ANTIQUE FOLK ART cane is a beautiful example in that it is in very nice original antique condition. The hard thorns would serve well to fend off a over protective dog or also used as a defense in the boom towns of the old west and around rough river fronts of the era. The knob head is festooned with the famous IRISH SHAMROCK on its top and on the underside of the knob the IRISH HARP. This old and rare stick measures 35” and weighs less than 1/2 pound. The knob is 2” in diameter.  Such items are much sought after by Civil War collectors due to the presents of the Shamrock and Harp symbols of the Irish brigade.  This very sturdy cane has 31 hard thorns along the shaft. The cane is very solid with no breaks or cracking. It has a brass metal tip to keep the wood from wearing. The dark black coloring is caused by smoking the wood in the flew of a fireplace causing the wood to harden and darken.
