Horseback or Indian Canoe Gun (Cut down shotgun)

An old, Sawed Off Shotgun with 14 inch barrels.  (YES IT IS LEGAL ANTIQUE PERCUSSION GUNS DO NOT HAVE A BARREL LENGTH RESTRICTION) It has an overall length of 30 1/2 inches.  The ramrod is 13 1/4 inches long.  The wood has some original finish worn off, with some cracks on the left side of the forearm, and some repair work around the lock, but it seams to be stable.   Some other minor dings and abrasions.  The back action locks both left and right, function crisply.  The gun has a brown patina, and has not been cleaned.  The locks, hammers, trigger guard, butt plate, tang, etc. have traces of engraving.  The gun dates from the late 1850's period.  It is marked MORTIMER on the locks. This was typical of trade shotguns of the era.  If you ever wanted a sawed off percussion shotgun to compliment your display, this is it.  I don't have a clue as to the history of the gun.  Could it be Confederate? Sure, or maybe an express agents gun. The tacks on the stock make me think that it might be an indian canoe gun,  It sure is interesting in an ugly sort of way.
