This badge represents a group of Law enforcement that was started in 1823 by the "Father of Texas" Stephen F Austin. Austin himself often referred to the group as "Rangers",  as the duties often required them to "range" over the territory and protect the new residence of Texas, thus giving rise to the name "Texas Rangers".
