This Mexican Double Loop Holster is copied from an original in the River Junction Collection, a style of gun leather that became common across the American West in the late 1800s. Often made in saddle shops, the double-loop design gave a working cowboy or other man of the frontier a straightforward way to carry a revolver on the belt. The style was practical, but a good saddle maker was just as likely to put some pride into the leatherwork.
This example is tooled with a floral motif over a stippled background, while the skirt and double loops are left plain with a simple border line. The antiqued brown finish brings out the carving without making the holster look overly dressed. A sewn closed toe keeps the bottom finished and gives the holster a clean, traditional form.
The pattern fits 7-1/2" barrel revolvers including the Colt 1873 and Colt clones, as well as the 1875 and 1858 Remingtons and Ruger Vaqueros. It will also fit the 1851, 1860, and 1861 Colt Army revolvers in appropriate barrel lengths. The original is what gives this reproduction its character; our leather-smith was able to study the old tooling, proportions, and construction before cutting and working each piece at the bench.

The leather is cut, tooled, dyed, oiled, and sewn by hand in the shop. That bench work keeps the finished holster close to the old example while giving each piece the character of honest gun leather.
