Colt 1877 Lightning .38 caliber long and short Colt, 6 shot double action Lightning Model sold for $16 in 1882 Markings on barrel "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." Can fire .38 full wad cutters with hollow base. Ammo readily available at most good gun shops. This gun is Colt's first double action revolver, dubbed the "Lightning" by Colt distributors. Legend has it that both Billy "the Kid" Bonny and "Doc" Holiday preferred these model guns. This gun is in nice shape, all matching numbers and retains some blue in protected areas. The bore has strong rifling showing some pitting. The barrel is 4 1/2 inches. The action is very tight and smooth and mechanically perfect. The grips are excellent no cracks or chips. The muzzle shows holster wear. The pin removes easily. This gun appears to have spent much of its life in the sock drawer. Serial Number 125004 Made in 1900. A nice piece of history at a reasonable price.
