Description

Army holster for the Colt Model 1889 or 1892. This is a rare holster in good condition.   There is a good chance this holster saw service in the Spanish-American War or went to Mexico with Pershing's men in pursuit of Pancho Villa. The holster is constructed of high quality leather and retains much of its original finish with some crazing. All stitching is intact and the bottom plug is tightly sewn in. It has a full flap with brass snap. The snap is intact and functions as it should. The belt loop is attached to the holster body by three rivets.

This holster  would be most suitable for display with a Colt Army revolver of the 1889 - 1898 period. It was manufactured for the Army by William Read & Son of Boston, Massachusetts, between 1899 and 1911. Examples of this holster are illustrated in  "U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND PISTOL CARTRIDGE BOXES" by Edward S. Meadows.
The holster is designed to be worn on the right hip with the gun butt forward, likely for an old school mounted office with a saber on his left hip.

The inside of the flap is marked "H.N. Stearns Co. C. 8th Army" a little hard to ready but I think that's what it says.

The 1892 Colt is not included.
