Syracuse forging New Baker Model 12ga Coachgun

This New Baker side by side shotgun was produced in Syracuse  N.Y. This 12 ga. Coach gun is in very good condition in all aspects save for the blood rust on the right barrel, It appears as though a bloody left hand may have grasp the barrel there. This has not effected the guns performance, but make one wonder about the story behind those finger prints.

Note, the butt plate monogram (SG Co.)

William Baker, in partnership with his brother Ellis, a practicing physician, he formed the Baker Gun and Forging Co. It is here where the guns marked "NEW BAKER" were first produced.  This company produced Baker shotguns for the next 32 years. In 1889, the plant burned, and the brothers moved the operation to Batavia, NY. William died before operations could begin there and Ellis quit the practice of medicine to run the gun business full time. He remained at the head of the company until his death in 1899.
