The Charley Cowboy Hat
The Charley is styled after one of the most recognizable hats from the movie “Open Range”, inspired by the one worn by Kevin Costner’s character, Charley Goodnight. While the movie brought this look to a wider audience, its roots are firmly planted in the working West, where a hat was shaped by the country it crossed and the work it saw.
Our modified 3-dent sagebrush crown gives the Charley its unmistakable character. Paul starts with a full 6.5-inch open crown and hand-styles it to capture the look of the movie original. The 4-inch bound brim is hand-curled, creating the rough, weathered profile that sets this hat apart. Like the hats worn by working cowboys, no two are exactly alike. The brim isn't meant to be perfectly symmetrical—that natural, broken-in character is part of what gives the Charley its authentic look.
