Cowboys working the cattle trails had plenty of use for bone long before it found its way onto a Colt grip frame. Around the bunkhouse and camp, cattle bone was a material that cost nothing and was already close at hand, so resourceful working men found ways to put it to use. Smooth bone grips grew out of that same practical habit of making useful things from what was available, giving a working revolver a personal touch without wasting good material.
These grips are shaped using the grip frame of a 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army, keeping the proportions of the early Colt at the heart of the reproduction. The two-piece smooth bone construction is hand-finished and given a heavy antique treatment, bringing out the irregular character of the material and giving it the aged appearance associated with old working guns.
The heavy antiquing is particularly suited to the history behind bone grips. This was never a material that needed to look fancy to be worthwhile. It was plentiful, workable, and distinctive once shaped and polished. On a revolver carried around a ranch, through a cattle camp, or along the trail, a bone grip could be both useful and personal.
