“You ignorant wretch" - Johnny Ringo
This hat is based on the one worn by Johnny Ringo, portrayed by Michael Biehn in the 1993 film Tombstone. Biehn's portrayal brought the hat's distinctive front brim flip to life, giving the character a memorable look that helped make this particular style so recognizable. The movie gave the character his distinctive appearance, but the broad brim itself has a practical history. Large-brimmed hats were common in 19th-century outdoor life because they helped shade the face and neck from the sun and offered some protection from the weather.
Made from fine 10X fur felt, this hat is hand-styled to give it the character seen in the film. The finished crown stands about 4 1/2 inches high, while the 4-inch unbound brim keeps the proportions true to the Johnny Ringo style. A genuine leather sweatband finishes the inside for comfortable everyday wear.
Truth be told, this hat started with a customer request. They wanted a hat made in the Johnny Ringo style from Tombstone, so we made one. We liked the shape and the way the front brim turned up so much that we decided it deserved a place in our catalog. Sometimes the best additions are the ones that start at the workbench with a customer asking for something worth making.
